Rams' Brown feeling special, but Mare OK, too

The NFL has named Rams kicker Josh Brown its special-teams player of the month for October.

Brown hit the winning 49-yard try against the Redskins in Week 6. He also made a saving tackle against the Patriots in Week 8. He has five touchbacks in 30 kickoffs.

How good is Brown? The Seahawks replaced him with two kickers after Brown signed with the Rams in free agency. Olindo Mare, on alert while the team carries rookie kicker Brandon Coutu on its 53-man roster, has fared better than anticipated on field-goal tries. He also has nine touchbacks in 35 kickoffs despite kicking outdoors every game this season.
