So often fans fret over the potential draft pick that got away.
Like when the 49ers were the beneficiary of Cincinnati taking quarterback Andy Dalton with the No. 35 pick in the 2011 draft. Thrilled by the opportunity, the 49ers traded up to take Colin Kaepernick one pick later.
Think that one is working out for San Francisco?
The decision by both teams were on display again Sunday when Dalton played poorly in a home playoff loss to San Diego and when Kaepernick led the 49ers to a playoff win at Green Bay.
Thanks to Kenton Wong of ESPN Stats & Information, it is easy to tell that Sunday’s disparity continues a postseason trend for both young quarterbacks. Kaepernick clearly thrives in the postseason while Dalton has melted. Here is a chart Wong put together to show the playoff disparity of the two.
So, sometimes, it’s worth looking at the draft moves that panned out.
