Releasing defensive end Chris Clemons could mean the Seahawks are close to working out a deal with one of the free-agent defensive linemen they are considering.

Dallas Cowboys free-agent defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, who had 11 sacks last season, is in Seattle on Wednesday talking to the Seahawks.

Team officials also are expected to talk to Minnesota Vikings free-agent defensive end Jared Allen, and have made calls to the agent of DeMarcus Ware, who was released by the Cowboys on Tuesday.

Releasing Clemons saves the Seahawks $7.5 million in salary-cap space. If the Seahawks aren’t successful in signing one of the other free agents, it’s possible Clemons could return to Seattle for less money, but obviously he will test the market and see what other teams might offer him.
