Vic Fangio is reportedly going to be paid handsomely for being one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL.
The Sacramento Bee reported Fangio is adding one year to his deal and he received a raise. A league source said the deal is not official. The 49ers and Fangio have been talking about an extension and a raise for much of the offseason. The 49ers extended the deal of secondary coach Ed Donatell earlier this offseason.
When official, Fangio deal should run through 2015. That is how long head coach Jim Harbaugh has remaining on his deal. Fangio has been with Harbaugh since he came to the 49ers from Stanford in 2011.
Fangio’s defense has been one of the primary reasons why the 49ers have made it to the NFC title game the past three seasons.
Of course, the team has been in extension talks with Harbaugh and they may extend through the offseason.
