49ers and former Rams receiver Isaac Bruce expects to make an announcement on his NFL future in the next few days.
BruceThat's what he told 101ESPN St. Louis without offering specifics.
Bruce has all but said he'll retire, and the 49ers, while valuing his leadership, moved on with younger receivers as the season progressed. Bruce handled the transition gracefully and seemed touched when teammates succeeded in getting coach Mike Singletary to let Bruce suit up and start in Week 17. Bruce stands as one of the most productive and admired players in St. Louis Rams history.
Bruce entered the NFL in 1994 and leads the NFL in receiving yards since that season. He is one of six wide receivers with at least 1,000 receptions.
With so many elite receivers putting up impressive numbers, it's tough to know where Bruce might fit into the Hall of Fame discussion. He is a four-time Pro Bowl choice and the NFL's active leader in receptions. He wasn't as prolific scoring touchdowns as some of his contemporaries and there will be a backlog at that and other positions.
