Steve Vallos played surprisingly well when injuries forced him into the lineup at center for Seattle during the exhibition season. He might get another chance under difficult circumstances now that the Seahawks have added starting center Chris Spencer to the injury report.

Vallos played tackle at Wake Forest. The Seahawks saw him as a guard when they selected him in the seventh round of the 2007 draft. They played Vallos at center after back injuries sidelined Spencer while forcing Chris Gray into retirement. Spencer's back is again a problem. The team listed him as questionable on its injury report.

Seattle has made multiple injury-related changes on its offensive line this season. Floyd Womack could start at left guard if Mike Wahle's shoulder injury prevents him from playing. Backup right tackle Ray Willis would start at right guard, where Womack had taken over after a pectoral injury forced Rob Sims onto injured reserve.

Vallos would have an easier time assimilating during the season if the Seahawks' situation at guard weren't also unsettled. Plugging in a late-round college tackle at center in Week 12 generally isn't the way to go. But it's been that kind of season for Seattle. If Vallos were to play and play well, the Seahawks might feel better about their depth for next season.
