Keeping Hall right move for Rams

The Rams' contract agreement with defensive end James Hall, announced by the team, will not shift the balance of power in the NFC West.

The move was a good one, though, because Hall is a versatile player with pass-rush ability, and the Rams would not find a better replacement on the free-agent market.

Hall, 33, has 11 sacks over the last two seasons. The Rams acquired him from Detroit for a 2007 fifth-round choice the Lions used for Manny Ramirez, a guard who started 12 games for them last season.

Hall's re-signing comes as the Seahawks let defensive end Cory Redding sign with Baltimore. Hall and Redding have different styles, but both could have value as role players. Re-signing Hall makes sense.
