Potential names for Mora's Seattle staff

The Seahawks are moving closer to filling out Jim Mora's staff, starting with new coordinators on both sides of the ball. The team has advised several existing assistant coaches to look for jobs, an indication that Seattle expects its new coordinators to make staff changes.

Given that new head coaches often hire former associates, I wanted to provide a list of the assistants Mora worked with during his tenure as the Falcons' head coach from 2004 through the 2006 season.

I'll break down his former assistants by how many years each assistant spent with Mora in Atlanta. The list will provide context for names that could arise in the coming days and weeks.

Mora assistants, 2004 to 2006:

  • Clancy Barone: Served under Mora as assistant offensive line coach (2004) and tight ends coach (2005, 2006). Most recently coaching tight ends for San Diego.
  • Chris Beake: Served under Mora as linebackers coach. Most recently offensive quality-control coach for the Seahawks.
  • Joe DeCamillis: Served under Mora as special-teams coach. Most recently coaching special teams for the Jaguars.
  • Ed Donatell: Served under Mora as defensive coordinator. Recently fired from the same job at the University of Washington.
  • Alex Gibbs: Served under Mora as assistant head coach/offensive line (2005) and as a consultant (2006, 2007). Most recently assistant head coach/offense for the Texans.
  • Bill Johnson: Predated Mora as defensive line coach in Atlanta and kept that job once Mora arrived. Most recently served as the Broncos' defensive line coach.
  • Greg Knapp: Served under Mora as offensive coordinator. Most recently offensive coordinator for the Raiders, but has an out clause in his contract. Expected to become the Seahawks' offensive coordinator under Mora.
  • Brett Maxie: Served under Mora as defensive backs coach. Most recently assistant defensive backs coach for the Cowboys.
  • Robert Prince: Served under Mora as offensive assistant (2004, 2005) and assistant quaterbacks coach (2006). Most recently assistant receivers coach for the Jaguars.
  • George Stewart: Served under Mora as receivers coach. Most recently receivers coach for Minnesota.
  • Emmitt Thomas: Served under Mora as senior defensive assistant/defensive backs. Most recently assistant head coach/defensive backs for the Falcons.
  • Ollie Wilson: Served under Mora as running backs coach. Most recently running backs coach for San Diego.

Mora assistants, 2004 and 2005:

  • Dennis Allen: Served under Mora as defensive assistant. Most recently defensive backs coach for the Saints.
  • Rocky Colburn: Served under Mora as assistant strength and conditioning coach. Most recently strength and conditioning coach at Alabama.
  • Jeff Jagodzinski: Served under Mora as tight ends coach (2004) and offensive line coach (2005). Most recently head coach at Boston College, but reportedly could lose his job after interviewing with the Jets.
  • Mike Johnson: Served under Mora as quarterbacks coach.
  • Al Miller: Served under Mora as strength and conditioning coach. Retired.

Mora assistants, 2005 and 2006:

  • Chris Dalman: Served under Mora as offensive assistant (2005) and assistant offensive line coach (2006). Most recently offensive line coach at Stanford.

Mora assistants, 2006 only:

  • Sal Alosi: Served under Mora as strength and conditioning coach. Most recently strength and conditioning coach for the Jets.
  • Tom Cable: Served under Mora as offensive line coach. Most recently head coach of the Raiders.
  • Steve Hoffman: Served under Mora as assistant special-teams coach. Most recently assistant special-teams coach for the Dolphins.
  • Billy "White Shoes" Johnson: Served under Mora as assistant strength and conditioning coach. Most recently assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Falcons.
  • Joe Lombardi: Served under Mora as a defensive assistant. Most recently an offensive assistant for the Saints.
  • Bill Musgrave: Served under Mora as quarterbacks coach. Most recently quarterbacks coach for the Falcons.

Note: The current statuses of some coaches could be in flux. That is why I used the term "most recently" in describing statuses of these coaches.
