The latest twist in Leroy Hill's domestic-violence case will not help the Seattle Seahawks' linebacker avoid further discipline from the NFL -- whether or not he has violated a court order.
Authorities in Issaquah, Wash., have had trouble tracking down the alleged victim in the case. They want to serve her with a subpoena requiring her to testify against Hill -- whether or not she wants to testify.
Police say they have tried to find her at various locations, including her work, to no avail. They say they've seen her car outside Hill's apartment more than once, including on May 25. They are requesting her phone records -- including information revealing her location when calls were made -- to determine whether there's been contact between Hill and the alleged victim, who was his girlfriend.
"Based on my experience domestic violence victims and defendants can communicate with each other, even after the issuance of court orders," an Issaquah officer wrote in an affidavit seeking phone records. "From the evidence of [her] car being at Hill's residence, and [her] declining to respond to the police, I believe they have been in contact with each other via phone also. Her phone records would show if in fact when her car was there that she was indeed within the house. I believe cell records will show evidence of witness tampering, witness intimidation and violation of the existing NCO."
Hill's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 20. The Seahawks hold their first practice of training camp Saturday. The NFL has already suspended Hill for the first game of the regular season. The league is watching to see if Hill stays out of trouble. Allegations of witness tampering and intimidation aren't what he needs right now.
