A.J. Feeley's thumb injury comes at a good time for the St. Louis Rams.
BradfordThe team is still nearly three weeks away from its regular-season opener, giving Feeley time to heal, and rookie first-round choice Sam Bradford needs the work, anyway. Bradford will get that work Thursday night when he makes his first NFL start of any kind, against the New England Patriots (Brian Stull of 101ESPN St. Louis passed along word from coach Steve Spagnuolo).
Feeley's injury makes it easier to start Bradford and give him extensive reps with the first-team offense. If Bradford shows improvement, he's one step closer to becoming the starter for Week 1 -- something I expect to happen, anyway, as long as Bradford makes strides.
My initial thought was that Bradford might be better off sitting behind Feeley for several weeks. That approach has merit, but Bradford has looked too good in practice for the Rams to waste their time by leaving him on the bench, in my view.
The Rams visit the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
