The St. Louis Rams' Steven Jackson has set a high standard for playing through injuries.
The one he suffered against Tampa Bay in Week 7 -- a broken finger that required surgery Monday -- could raise different challenges. Jackson continued playing, but the surgery could conceivably affect his ability to protect the football, ward off defenders, brace himself during a fall, etc.
I use the word "conceivably" because we don't know enough about the injury to say how much he'll be affected. Will Jackson wear a brace on his hand or finger? Will he be able to catch the call cleanly? Where in the finger was the fracture? How severe was the fracture?
Jackson predicted via Twitter he'll continue playing and "shouldn't miss a beat" as the Rams prepare to face Carolina in Week 8. The team has a bye in Week 9.
