Pregame thoughts as 49ers, Cards warm up

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Something to consider while bracing for the NFC West bashing that is sure to intensify as the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals approach kickoff on "Monday Night Football": Those were the St. Louis Rams winning on the road Sunday while the NFC East was going 0-4.

OK, now that we've restored a little dignity around these parts, let's consider a few possibilities:
  • The 49ers' Frank Gore has rushed for at least 100 yards in his last two Monday night games. A 100-yard game against the Cardinals would tie him with the Rams' Steven Jackson for the longest current Monday night streak among active players.
  • Gore has more rushing yards than any player in the league on "Monday Night Football" since his 2007 debut on the program.
  • The Cardinals will not have defensive end Calais Campbell against the 49ers. The team ran Campbell through a pregame workout on the field a bit ago. Campbell's injured ankle has prevented him from practicing. He's inactive.
  • Dan Bickley and Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910 radio in Phoenix asked me which NFC West team is in the driver's seat from a scheduling standpoint. I told them the Cardinals were in the driver's seat, but they were asleep at the wheel. The Seattle Seahawks had lost their grip on the wheel and were slumping onto the floorboards. The Rams' Sam Bradford was reaching his left foot across center console and pressing the accelerator, putting himself in position to shove the Cardinals out the door with a victory at Arizona in Week 13. The 49ers didn't factor into the conversation. Perhaps that will change Monday night.

We're about an hour away from kickoff. Ron Jaworksi and Jon Gruden came through the pressbox a bit ago. Cardinals president Michael Bidwill is down on the field holding court with five other guys in suits. Quarterbacks and receivers are warming up on the field. The 49ers' punter, Andy Lee, just boomed one about 50 yards.
