Rams' Incognito needs to raise boiling point

Bill Coats of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says Rams guard Richie Incognito plans to become a more mature player.

Good idea.

Incognito has been the most outwardly hot-headed player in the NFC West over the last couple seasons, in my view. He has racked up massive fines and more penalties than any NFC West player last season [the chart shows individual leaders from last season, counting declined penalties].

Incognito earned $163,540 over his salary in performance-based pay last season. The attitude he brings to the line can help St. Louis establish the hard-nosed identity Steve Spagnuolo and the new coaching staff want to encourage. Incognito is good enough to start, but perhaps not good enough to keep his job for the long term if the new coaching staff cannot count on him to maintain his composure in key situations.
