Rams take first step with Josh McDaniels

ESPN's Ed Werder has the news St. Louis Rams fans have anticipated: Josh McDaniels is officially a candidate to succeed Pat Shurmur as offensive coordinator.

Interviewing McDaniels makes sense even though hiring him would almost certainly force quarterback Sam Bradford and the offense to learn a new playbook. McDaniels has had success working with quarterbacks. Bradford could fit better in his system than in the one St. Louis ran under Shurmur.

Setting up an interview with McDaniels, the former Denver Broncos coach, required little effort for the Rams. McDaniels and Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo use the same agent.

Also, former Rams executive Tony Softli, now with 101ESPN St. Louis, expects former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress to interview with the Rams next week.
