Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat quotes 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan on Sirius NFL radio. The GM says the 49ers will not pursue Michael Vick. McCloughan: "Well, I think what happens there, and I totally respect it, is people understand who Mike Singletary is and understand that he has no problem giving guys second chances. Coach and I have sat down. We sat down and talked last week. We had an off-week of OTAs and we discussed about Michael Vick and we're not going to go that route. We will not do it."

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says first-round draft choice Jason Smith likes living in a hotel and not having to pay bills. Smith: "Yeah, I'm settled in. I'm over at the Holiday Inn right now. The bed's made up every day. The air conditioning's cold. I don't have any bills coming in. I'm loving it." What about buying a home? Smith: "I'm thinking about buying a Holiday Inn, you know what I mean? And just living there." Smith was joking, but I wonder what a Holiday Inn goes for in St. Louis these days. Any idea?

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic offers additional numbers from Adrian Wilson's contract extension with the Cardinals. The $8.5 million salary for 2009 is guaranteed. Somers: "It's interesting the Cardinals put so much money in salary in the first year of the deal rather than a signing bonus, which could be prorated. They have structured deals in similar ways in recent years, preferring to take a hefty cap hit in one year rather than spread it out over the life of the contract. they did that with Edgerrin James and Al Johnson, for instance."

John Morgan of Field Gulls assesses Seahawks rookie receiver Deon Butler. Morgan: "To figure out Butler's profile, I will use Rob Pitzer's work from Pro Football Prospectus 2008. In it he proposes four successful wide receiver types: Slight, short, thick and tall. He uses height and BMI to categorize each type." Players with similar profiles: Derrick Mason, Don Beebe, Todd Kinchen, Charlie Rogers and Dexter Jackson.
