Heath asks via Facebook for more information on Miami Dolphins assistant head coach/secondary Todd Bowles, reportedly a candidate to become the Arizona Cardinals' defensive coordinator.

Mike Sando: Bowles and Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt were assistant coaches together with the New York Jets in 2000. Bowles and Cardinals assistant head coach/offensive line Russ Grimm played together on the Washington Redskins during the 1980s. That history could come into play.

Bowles has been seen over the years as a coach on the rise, but the breaks haven't gone his way. He was a logical candidate to become the Dolphins' defensive coordinator at one point, but the team hired Mike Nolan instead. It was tough to fault the Dolphins' too much for hiring Nolan, who had been a head coach, even thought Bowles was already on staff.

The Cardinals cannot necessarily bank on landing one of the Pittsburgh Steelers' assistants as coordinator. There are too many variables. I think they would be wise to consider other candidates in the meantime, and if one impresses them sufficiently, they should move forward with the hire.

Bowles' bio details his coaching history with the Jets, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Dolphins. Bowles also played briefly for the San Francisco 49ers.
