Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals edged the Steelers in ESPY award balloting among NFL types. The breakdown:
- Best game: Steelers vs. Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII
- Best play: Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes, Super Bowl-winning touchdown
- Best breakthrough athlete: Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons
- Best NFL players: Fitzgerald
- Land Rover "ICON" Award: Warner
Warner's success has extended to the publishing world, where "First Things First" will rank 10th on the July 26 list of New York Times bestsellers for hardcover nonfiction.
Fitzgerald missed the awards presentation. He thanked fans for their votes and explained his absence by saying he couldn't afford to miss a workout.
