Mike Holmgren told KJR radio's Mitch Levy he had a wonderful conversation with Seahawks owner Paul Allen in February, one of several such conversations Holmgren has had over the years with the team's very private owner.
Levy: When you put down the phone, did you ever say to yourself or [wife] Kathy or somebody else, "Who knows, maybe I'll work for him again some day in some manner, some shape, some way?"
Holmgren: Sure. Sure. You have to put that in this context that I had just finished coaching. We had a tough year. It was an emotional time right then. I didn't know how I was going to react to not working and having a year off for the first time in a long time. And so, yeah, when I hung up the phone, it was such a good conversation that, in fact, words very much like you said, you know, "Maybe some day, who knows, that kind of thing. Yeah, that happened."This is consistent with what Holmgren has said this offseason. Could I see him back with the Seahawks at some point in the future? Yes. Would general manager Tim Ruskell still be running the team under such a scenario? Uh, no. If I were Ruskell, would I want the team's legendary head coach publicly musing about such things less than three weeks before a regular season that could decide my fate with the organization? Uh, no.
