Kendricks projects as a pass-catching tight end with good versatility. This is an interesting selection given Mike Hoomanawanui's presence on the roster. Hoomanawanui shifted between tight end and fullback last season, showing good promise as a receiver when he was healthy.
New offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has valued strong blocking tight ends such as Daniel Graham. Nolan Nawrocki, draft analyst for Pro Football Weekly, called Kendricks a top-50 talent who "could even warrant some late first-round interest" given the relative lack of tight ends in this draft.
Selecting a wide receiver, linebacker or defensive tackle would have addressed a greater need area. But as noted earlier Friday, there was no point in selecting a wide receiver without the skills needed to differentiate himself from what the Rams already have at the position.
