McDaniels: Bradford 'so driven to be great'

8/16/2011

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Quarterback Sam Bradford and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels are still getting acquainted after the NFL lockout wiped out what should have been a more productive offseason for them.

The St. Louis Rams' preseason opener against Indianapolis on Saturday night provided a bit of a revelation.

"I got to see the first time the other night in the stadium his passion, his fire on game day," McDaniels said following Rams practice Tuesday. "It was a preseason contest. It was a regular-season mood for all of us and it was a little bit of a different deal. He showed that fire and that leadership."

Bradford, calm and low-keyed most of the time, transformed into something McDaniels hadn't seen on the practice field.

"He is a little bit of a quiet guy in terms of some of the things that he does in the meetings," McDaniels said. "But in the locker room, on the field, on the sideline -- very vocal, very excitable. He is so driven to be great. It is fun to be around."

Note: I've just returned from the practice field and have multiple interviews to process. Diving into the Rams' situation at wide receiver is a priority. Back with more Rams notes in a bit. Also in the division, the Seattle Seahawks announced the signing of safety Atari Bigby.
