GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Shaun Hill is rewarding the 49ers for their decision to name him the starter for 2009.

His leadership, decision making and ability to strike downfield every so often has helped the 49ers take a 13-6 halftime lead over the Cardinals. While Arizona's Kurt Warner has reverted to some bad habits, holding the ball too long and tossing two interceptions, Hill has completed 60 percent of his passes, including a 50-yarder to Isaac Bruce.

None of this runs counter to what Hill has shown in the past. His 2008 passer rating was 87.5. His passer rating in this game is 90.1.

Also for the 49ers, cornerback Nate Clements and outside linebacker Parys Haralson are winning individual battles, preventing Warner from getting into a rhythm. Both have fared well against Arizona in the past. The question here is whether the Cardinals can snap out of it in the second half. They did so in beating the 49ers in the opener last season.
