The Cardinals do not have to worry about losing their most feared defensive player, Adrian Wilson, to an NFL suspension following the safety's huge hit on 49ers tight end Vernon Davis in Week 1.

The hit drew a penalty flag and Wilson likely faces a fine, but the trail of carnage left in his career-long wake, including a league-leading 17 personal fouls through the 2007 season, will not lead the league to suspend him.

That is the right call, in my view. Wilson appeared to be making a hard-nosed play on Davis. He did not appear to be head hunting or trying to violate the rules. The letter of the rule might compel the league to throw a flag or even fine him, but the league has more discretion with suspensions. Wilson did not deserve one here.
