T.J. Houshmandzadeh has missed only five regular-season games in the previous five seasons. He practiced Friday for the first time since suffering back spasms this week, an indication the Seahawks will likely have him against the 49ers.

Brandon Mebane's status appears less certain. Expect the Seahawks to keep Red Bryant active this week. I was surprised to see Bryant among the inactive players for Week 1, but the Seahawks felt they needed more pass rushers than run stuffers, apparently. They'll need big bodies against the 49ers, no question, and especially if Mebane's calf sidelines him.

Also on the receiver front, the Cardinals sound optimistic about having Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston against the Jaguars. The 49ers do not expect Brandon Jones to return from his shoulder injury this week. I wonder if that means San Francisco will suddenly focus on running the ball.
