The Seahawks made room for receiver Keary Colbert on their roster by releasing defensive end Jason Babin, who enjoyed a strong preseason but apparently didn't sustain that level of play.

This leaves Seattle with nine defensive linemen, right on the league average for teams running 4-3 schemes.

That means the Seahawks are sticking with their decision to keep two kickers on the 53-man roster. Veteran Olindo Mare is obviously the kicker coach Mike Holmgren wants for the short term. Rookie Brandon Coutu is obviously the kicker the organization values over the long term.

Seattle acquired Babin from the Houston Texans in the Michael Boulware trade. His pass rushing caught the team's attention during the exhibition season.
