Clare Farnsworth of seahawks.com says the team's depth on the defensive line allows them to rotate as many as eight players, giving each 35 to 40 snaps in a game, according to coach Jim Mora. The team expects Patrick Kerney to return from a groin injury in Week 6. Mora: "So really, it’s a great situation for us that we feel like we have guys that can go in and play and not see the level of play decline. So it’s a real positive, actually."
Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times offers notes from Mora's day-after-game news conference. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck did not suffer any additional damage to his ribs.
Also from O'Neil: Mora thought it was important for the Seahawks to play a full game against the Jaguars, preserving a shutout.
Eric D. Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune says the Seahawks are down to their fourth-string left tackle. At least Kyle Williams has some experience.
Dave Boling of the Tacoma News Tribune notes how the Seahawks have outscored opponents 69-0 in the games Hasselbeck started and finished.
John Morgan of Field Gulls sizes up the Seahawks' chances based on their performance against the Jaguars.
Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Chronicle says 49ers coach Mike Singletary made sure lessons were learned during the team's 45-10 home defeat to the Falcons. Dre Bly's apology for showboating was consistent with Singletary's philosophy. Kawakami: "That's how he handles this team; that's how he handled the Bly incident, which Singletary said he didn't fully see or understand until hours after the game. One bad public moment in a terrible game. And Singletary was trying to make it a larger lesson amid a long, bumpy journey."
Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat says there's no immediate word as to whether Jeff Ulbrich and Michael Lewis will return from their latest concussions.
Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic says Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt took the blame for the team's reliance on the pass early in the second half against the Texans. Quarterback Kurt Warner was correct in switching out of run plays when Houston crowded the line with extra defenders. However, Whisenhunt wished he had called more plays in which checking to a running play wasn't an option for the quarterback. Whisenhunt also regretted his decision to practice Friday without artificial noise. The Cardinals apparently had some communication problems on defense as they tried to implement combination coverages against Texans receiver Andre Johnson.
Paola Boivin of the Arizona Republic expects a good rivalry game when the Cardinals visit Seattle in Week 6.
Darren Urban of azcardinals.com says the Cardinals do plan to get Beanie Wells more involved in the offense.
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says there's no quarterback controversy in St. Louis. Marc Bulger is the starter when healthy. I think that's easy to say after Boller struggled and got hurt against the Vikings. The Rams made no such public declarations when Bulger remained unavailable and Kyle Boller was starting. Thomas: "Bulger and Boller have played roughly 10 quarters apiece this season, with the Rams scoring 14 points with Bulger in the game and 20 points with Boller playing. Boller's mobility was an asset, but his turnovers were a problem, with three interceptions and a lost fumble in his 10 quarters of play. Bulger has no interceptions and one lost fumble this season."
Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo is the source of the team's optimism.
