Quarterback Alex Smith admitted the 49ers' pursuit of Peyton Manning during the offseason will serve as motivation as he prepares for the 2012 season, reports the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows. "Certainly there are a lot of forms of motivation," said Smith. "I guess that's there a little bit as far as motivation."

The Seahawks don't need Matt Flynn to be a top 5 quarterback, because they can lean on their solid running game and strong defense, writes Rosenthal. If Flynn is just average, that'll be a big upgrade for the Seahawks, and might be enough to get them to the playoffs.

"It's quite a difference," Jackson said when asked about the confidence of Fisher, compared to past regimes. "Nothing against what I've had before coach Fisher, but you can definitely tell a difference in leadership, a difference in confidence. It's not so much of on-the-job training."
The relationship between the St. Louis Rams and rookie cornerback Janoris Jenkins has reportedly started off on the wrong foot, writes Jason Cole of Yahoo!
