The USFL's planned return as a spring league in 2013 hasn't gotten much attention.
An admission: I didn't know anything about it until the league distributed a release Monday naming NFC West alums Marshall Faulk and Jeff Garcia as members of its advisory board.
A Pro Football Hall of Famer in part for the legacy he established while winning a Super Bowl for the St. Louis Rams, Faulk will serve on the "business operations branch" of the USFL's advisory board.
If Faulk is as free with his opinions in that role as he has been in criticizing his former team, the USFL won't have to worry about sugar-coated assessments. As recently as January, Faulk dismissed the Rams' choice for an offensive coordinator under Jeff Fisher. He previously criticized the team for firing its longtime trainer.
The USFL describes Garcia, who spent his first five NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, as recently retired from the game and heading up a sports agency.
Hall of Fame receiver Fred Biletnikoff is also part of the USFL board.
