HOUSTON -- Alex Smith is the 49ers' starting quarterback after his three-touchdown second half against the Texans.
Coach Mike Singletary just made the announcement in his Monday news conference. I'm working from the Houston airport and listening to the 49ers' news conference on their Web site.
Waiting until Monday to make the announcement showed the proper respect for Hill, who has a winning overall record as the team's starter. Making the change to Smith affirmed what everyone saw Sunday.
The 49ers were better with Smith -- much better -- and he did enough for the 49ers to give him another chance.
