A periodic look at where NFC West defenses rank and potential areas to address:
Arizona Cardinals: They still haven't allowed more than 21 points in a game this season. The Cardinals rank only 22nd in Total QBR allowed over Weeks 4-5. They've given up too many big pass plays lately, including touchdown passes covering 80 and 51 yards.
St. Louis Rams: Rush defense isn't a strong suit for the Rams, but they're making up for it with effective pass defense. They rank third in NFL passer rating allowed, better than any team in the division ranks. That's impressive given the competition.
San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers rank last in red-zone touchdown percentage allowed. That isn't a big concern, however. The 49ers haven't allowed a touchdown of any kind in their past two games. They allowed five in five red-zone possessions over the first three games.
Seattle Seahawks: Third-down defense improved against Carolina. Note that Seattle leads the NFL in yards allowed and yards per play allowed. Only the 49ers have allowed fewer points, but Seattle's points-allowed figure is inflated by touchdowns scored on a fake field goal and an interception return.
