Preseason NFL predictions tend to be futile.
As much as half the playoff field tends to turn over from one year to the next. Predicting which teams will ascend and which ones will fall back isn't always easy.
2012 NFL Predictions
Last season was the 16th in a row featuring at least five playoff participants who had not reached postseason in the previous year.
There is no sense in getting too invested in picks that will usually fail to materialize. That could explain why I couldn't recall which teams I'd penciled in for the Super Bowl when Mike Jurecki asked for by preseason picks during our Friday conversation on XTRA Sports 910 AM.
Turns out New England and Green Bay were the teams I'd chosen for our preseason predictions package on ESPN.com.
This season is shaping up better than most for meeting expectations.
Seven of the eight teams I picked to win divisions are leading their divisions. The Packers were the exception.
That isn't so impressive given that six of the eight division champs from last season are leading their divisions entering Week 9. New Orleans and Green Bay are the exceptions. The Saints' fall was widely anticipated.
