The facts: The Seahawks fell to 2-5 with a 38-17 road defeat to the Cowboys in Week 8.

The upside: Even the worst defeats tend to feature a bright spot or two.
  • Matt Hasselbeck connected with Deion Branch for a touchdown, their first scoring connection since the 2007 season.
  • Running back Edgerrin James moved into 10th place on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 12,246 yards. He needs 33 yards to catch Marshall Faulk for ninth.
  • The Seahawks' newest starting left tackle, Damion McIntosh, played reasonably well. He was not the primary reason the Seahawks lost.
  • Nate Burleson caught six more passes for 89 yards. Burleson is on pace to finish with 87 receptions for 1,113 yards and seven touchdowns.
  • The Seahawks converted 43 percent of their third-down opportunities. They have converted at least 40 percent in five of seven games this season.
  • Seattle opened the game with a 14-play scoring drive featuring a successful Wildcat play and a strong ground game. That suggested the plan was sound.
  • Middle linebacker David Hawthorne finished with eight tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, one pass defensed and one forced fumble. There was no drop-off from injured starter Lofa Tatupu, in other words. Hawthorne has arguably played better.
Looking ahead: The Seahawks face the Lions at home in Week 9.
