The 49ers' defense fell six spots in yards allowed while rising five spots in red zone touchdown percentage following a mostly impressive performance against Peyton Manning and the Colts.

Seattle's rank in scoring defense fell seven spots following a 38-17 defeat to the Cowboys. The NFL counts special-teams touchdowns when calculating scoring defense. Dallas' Patrick Crayton scored on an 82-yard punt return as the Cowboys blew open the game.

Arizona held on to its No. 3 league ranking in third-down conversion percentage allowed even though Carolina converted 8 of 16 chances. The Cardinals' run defense fell from No. 1 to No. 8 after the Panthers rushed for 270 yards.

Where NFC West defenses finished in yards allowed last season: San Francisco 13, Arizona 19, St. Louis 28, Seattle 30.
