The team plans to activate Wells this week, just in time to face the St. Louis Rams at University of Phoenix Stadium in Week 12. Wells rushed for a career-high 228 yards in his most recent game against the Rams. That was in Week 12 last season.
Much has changed for both teams since then. The Rams have a new coaching staff and more victories through 10 games -- three, plus a tie -- than they managed all of last season. They have a healthy starting quarterback and a healthier team overall. The Cardinals aren't as healthy this time around.
Much also remains the same for these teams.
Arizona was 3-7 entering the Week 12 matchup in 2011. The team is 4-6 this time. Last year, Wells' performance and a Patrick Peterson touchdown return helped the Cardinals bounce back from a dispiriting defeat at San Francisco. They held off the Rams, 23-20, on their way to winning five of their final six to finish 8-8.
The Rams, after that Week 12 defeat in the Edward Jones Dome, failed to win another game last season. They finished 2-14.
Fourth-year running back Beanie Wells had 76 yards rushing through three games this season when a toe injury landed him on the Arizona Cardinals' injury list.
