A few quick thoughts on Seahawks coach Jim Mora's news conference Wednesday:
Coach Jim Mora put players on notice when he challenged them to be more accountable following their defeat in Dallas. The team then made several moves along the fringes of its roster as if to drive home the point. I would expect immediate "results" against the Lions, but some of the underlying problems will be tougher to "solve" against good teams.
A few quick thoughts on Seahawks coach Jim Mora's news conference Wednesday:
- Nate Burleson could return punts. The Seahawks need a spark on special teams. Burleson can be a game-changer. Protecting a starting wide receiver makes more sense for a 5-2 team than a 2-5 team.
- Louis Rankin could help return kickoffs. He returned six kickoffs for the Raiders this season without breaking one longer than 23 yards. Opponents aren't going to fear him.
- Matt Hasselbeck will be limited in practice. Not surprising. Those broken ribs probably will not feel good until the offseason. I recall seeing Hasselbeck take cover prematurely on at least one pass play against the Cowboys. Limiting punishment is key.
- Sean Locklear would stay at left tackle if he could return. But will he return this week? Damion McIntosh wasn't bad at left tackle against the Cowboys. Locklear wasn't great at left tackle when he was in there. Getting Locklear back helps depth significantly, but how much better than McIntosh would he be immediately upon returning from that serious ankle sprain?
