The Seahawks cannot be picky about victories even if the nature of this one provided a sad commentary on Seattle's current state of affairs.

The Lions had lost 15 consecutive road games before Sunday. The Rams ended a 17-game losing streak against them in Week 8.

Yet, there the Seahawks were, barely able to hold off Detroit at Qwest Field. At least they did not lose.

At 3-5, the Seahawks can pull within a game of first place in the NFC West with a victory at Arizona in Week 10. Little about how either team played Sunday suggests that will happen.

This was supposed to be the week Seattle righted itself after coach Jim Mora threatened jobs and released players, including Edgerrin James. Instead, Seattle committed two early turnovers before failing on a fourth-and-1 play, fueling a 17-0 Lions lead.

Give the Seahawks a measure of credit for fighting back and finding a way to win. Matt Hasselbeck topped 300 yards passing. Top cornerback Marcus Trufant picked off a pass late in the game. Josh Wilson returned an interception for the clinching touchdown.

Those were good signs, but not enough to fully offset the impression left by a horrible start against a struggling opponent.
