Defenses figuring out O'Sullivan, 49ers
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando
The 49ers' J.T. O'Sullivan has taken four sacks over the last two games, his lowest total in back-to-back games this season. San Francisco has still allowed more sacks than any team in the league this season.
We knew that might be the case with Mike Martz taking over as offensive coordinator. The chart shows where Martz's teams have ranked in sacks allowed since 2002 (never lower than tied for the sixth-most).
O'Sullivan has thrown seven interceptions in his last three games after throwing one in the first three games. His yards per attempt are also declining, from a stratospheric 9.4 earlier in the season to 7.6 through six games.
Opposing defenses appear to be getting wise to O'Sullivan and the 49ers. I would expect that to continue against the Giants in Week 7.
