Around the NFC West: Buyer beware?

Not to spoil the March excitement around here, but some of the most promising young players NFC West teams added this offseason finished 2012 on injured reserve.

That meant they were too injured to help their former teams. While all could return to full health in 2013, injury concerns explain why some of them reached the market in the first place.

The St. Louis Rams' marquee additions, Jake Long and Jared Cook, combined to miss seven games. Seattle Seahawks newcomer Percy Harvin missed seven.

Glenn Dorsey, signed to a more modest contract by the San Francisco 49ers, missed 12 games last season. Rashard Mendenhall, added to potentially start at running back for the Arizona Cardinals, was listed as "doubtful" or "out" seven times in 2012.

Those are a few examples among the more recognizable additions this offseason. It's tempting to assume full health for players when projecting their contributions. That isn't necessarily realistic, however.
