One potential subject for upcoming chat
By Mike Sando
Passing along: the link to our regularly scheduled NFC West chat, set to begin Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.
Michael Crabtree's injury was the No. 1 subject from the chat last week. Not much has changed in the intervening days. NFC West rosters are pretty much unchanged.
The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers have held organized team activities (OTAs) without incurring new injuries.
There's been some focus on Vernon Davis' rapport with quarterback Colin Kaepernick. I spent a good chunk of Wednesday taking a closer look at some of the numbers from last season. We can get into that during the chat. I'll follow up with an item on the subject.
The chart shows regular-season and postseason target numbers by down for Davis by quarterback, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Smith targeted Davis 35 times. Kaepernick targeted him 43 times. There were some differences in the types of targets, the timing of those targets and the personnel groupings associated with those targets. I'm still sorting through what it means.
My basic feeling now is that the 49ers have nothing to worry about there. They should feel great about Kaepernick and Davis working well together in the future.
