Around the NFC West: Sound planning
By Mike Sando
The Seattle Seahawks' plans to attempt a crowd-noise record during a Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers prompted a good question during Matt Maiocco's latest chat for CSNBayArea.
apostolos49 wanted to know if the 49ers were building into their new stadium features to enhance the noise factor, a tack Seattle took in building its current stadium more than a decade ago.
The word from Maiocco: no.
"In the 49ers' open-air design," Maiocco explained, "most of that noise will be escaping into the heavens."
The 49ers have made cutting-edge technology a focus of their new stadium. That makes sense when it comes to serving fans at a stadium located in Santa Clara, home to Silicon Valley heavy hitters such as Google and Yahoo!
Enthusiastic fans will make the new stadium loud, but how loud? How will relocating games from Candlestick's grittier industrial surroundings to a higher-priced venue in a technology hub affect those dynamics?
