A dome is no home for Seahawks now
By Terry Blount
RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks played in the Kingdome for 24 seasons, but playing under a roof hasn’t been a good thing for them in recent years.
Seattle will play its third dome game of the season Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium.
The good news: The Seahawks are 1-1 in dome games this year -- winning 23-20 in overtime at Houston before losing 34-28 one week later at Indianapolis.
The bad news: Seattle is 5-14 in domed stadiums since the start of the 2009 season. And the Seahawks are 1-6 in Arizona’s building since the stadium opened in 2006.
More bad news: Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is 17-7 in his NFL career, but only 2-5 in domed stadiums.
Maybe that’s more about being on the road than being under a roof. If so, Seattle’s reputation of being a bad road team isn’t accurate since the middle of last season. The Seahawks have won five of their past seven road games, which includes a 2-2 record in dome games.
After Arizona Thursday, Seattle has two more dome games this year in the regular season -- St. Louis on Monday night, Oct. 28, and Atlanta on Nov. 10.
