PHOENIX -- Vernon Davis' acrobatic 18-yard touchdown grab over Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson that gave the 49ers a 21-13 lead showed why the 49ers selected the talented tight end in the first round of the 2006 draft.
The way Davis celebrated reminded the 49ers why they might never be able to trust him. Davis removed his helmet in celebration, drawing a 15-yard penalty that could have given the Cardinals a head start on a scoring drive right before halftime.
ESPN cameras caught Davis hugging coach Mike Singletary on the sideline after the play. Singletary did not appear to be an active or even willing participant in the hug.
If the 49ers can't trust Davis to control his emotions one game after Singletary banished Davis to the locker room during a game, I'm not sure if anything else is going to work.
