Frank Gore lost his balance and couldn't regain it despite absorbing minimal punishment near the goal line in the final stages of the 49ers' defeat Monday night. The concussion he suffered a few plays earlier probably didn't help him.

Dan Brown of 49ers Hot Read: "Gore said he [had] a 'bad' headache after taking a shot from defensive end Chike Okeafor during the final minutes of a 29-24 loss. Gore was a blocker on the play as Jason Hill made a catch near the sideline."

Gore said he collided head-to-head with Okeafor. The 49ers listed Gore on their injury report with a neck injury. They expect him to play against the Rams, according to Brown.

The 49ers handed off to fullback Michael Robinson on the final play of the game. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz said this was because he thought the ball had been spotted closer to the goal line. In retrospect, it's fortunate the team didn't hand off to Gore in that situation. He could have absorbed another direct shot to the head.

Update: The 49ers later said Gore did not have a concussion.
