Rolle says he never dissed Brees
By Mike Sando
Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle is denying comments attributed to him following the Cardinals-Packers game.
Yahoo.com's Mike Silver quoted Rolle as saying he would rather face the Saints' Drew Brees than the Packers' Aaron Rodgers.
"My thoughts are that is a complete and total lie," Rolle told reporters. "First of all, I wasn’t even talking to Mike Silver. Adrian (Wilson) and myself were having a conversation. I was simply praising Aaron Rodgers and he decided to throw Drew Brees’ name out there. I was just like, 'I'm not even talking about Drew Brees. I’m talking about Aaron Rodgers.' He twisted and turned it. I'm not even a guy that speaks to the media. My name is never out there. For him to go out there and say that to try to stir something up is just typical."
Now matter how strong the denial, Rolle doesn't get to choose what the Saints elect to use as motivation. The Cardinals would certainly take note if they thought one of the Saints' defensive backs had made similar comments about Kurt Warner -- even if the quotes were attributed incorrectly.
Update: Silver takes issue with Rolle's comments, saying in part, "Antrel Rolle gave that quote to me at the end of an interview at his locker (as he said, he was starting to walk away). I wrote it down as he spoke and quoted him exactly. It was related in its proper context and was a completely accurate portrayal of what he said about Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees."
