Division-by-division look at UFA additions

Twenty-nine unrestricted free agents have changed teams since the signing period opened March 5.

That's not a particularly large number.

AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky reached out Monday, suggesting his division might be quieter than most. I ran the numbers and was surprised to see NFC West teams accounting for a disproportionate share of UFA additions from other teams.

NFC West teams haven't exactly dived into the free-agent pool in absolute terms, but they've been relatively busy, adding five UFAs from other teams, tied with NFC North teams for second-most UFA acquisitions. The 49ers (David Carr) and Rams (A.J. Feeley) are the only NFL teams to sign UFA quarterbacks from other teams.

NFC South teams have added only one UFA from another team, but the Falcons made the signing count, landing cornerback Dunta Robinson.

The chart shows UFA signings from other teams. Additional players have signed after being released or going untendered as potential restricted free agents. The Seahawks added former Rams receiver Ruvell Martin on Monday, for example. The Rams did not extend an RFA tender to Martin, allowing him to sign elsewhere. The Seahawks' general manager, John Schneider, was with the Packers when Martin played for Green Bay.
