No surprises: Sam Bradford is the man
By Mike Sando
The St. Louis Rams' decision to select Sam Bradford makes just about everyone 1-for-1 in their mock drafts through the first pick.
This decision could buy time for general manager Billy Devaney and coach Steve Spanguolo. Bradford gives them a player to build around, a face of the franchise, a new leader.
Devaney and Spagnuolo could sink or swim with this decision.
This marks the second time Devaney's teams have drafted a quarterback in the first five rounds. Ryan Leaf, chosen second overall by Devaney's Chargers in 1998, was the other.
Bradford appears to have the intangibles that were a question mark with Leaf. Can he play? The Rams should have an idea rather quickly. They'll need to get him on the field this season and show ownership -- Stan Kroenke, most likely -- that Bradford has the potential to lead them.
