Parallels the 49ers, Cowboys hoped to avoid
By Mike Sando
The Major League Baseball teams from San Francisco and Dallas are headed for the World Series while NFL teams from those markets have entered a world of hurt.
The 49ers and Cowboys have but one victory apiece through Week 7.
Facebook friend Mike gets the assist for pointing out the similarities.
Both the 49ers and Cowboys also watched their quarterbacks suffer significant injuries in Week 7. Alex Smith suffered a sprained left shoulder that could sideline him indefinitely. The broken collarbone Tony Romo suffered Monday night could end his season.
The similarities do not end there.
The Cowboys, like the 49ers, were relying upon a rookie running back in pass protection when their quarterbacks were injured. Veteran running backs aren't perfect, either, but when coaches express reluctance to trust rookie running backs in protection, their concerns have some validity.
