On the 49ers' conversations with Parcells
By Mike Sando
The San Francisco 49ers' decision to tap into veteran NFL people -- including Bill Parcells -- makes sense as the team searches for a general manager and, in turn, a head coach.
Parcells has vast experience in building and running NFL franchises. His counsel should valued.
It's an upset, however, if Parcells can tell the 49ers anything they do not already know about in-house candidate Trent Baalke. Parcells hired Baalke with the New York Jets in 1998. The two have not worked together since 2000.
Baalke has been with the 49ers since 2005, becoming their top personnel evaluator when general manager Scot McCloughan left the team in the spring.
