The 49ers announced fifth-round choice Nate Davis' signing and safety Lewis Baker's release. NFC West teams will have to clear six additional roster spots to sign all their draft choices.

The 49ers are at 81 players after these moves. They can get to 80 by placing cornerback Walt Harris on injured reserve. I'm not sure if they plan to do that, but it could be one option after Harris suffered a serious knee injury earlier in the offseason.

The Cardinals will have to clear two roster spots to sign their two unsigned choices. The Rams will have to clear three roster spots to sign t
heir three unsigned picks.

Around the league, we're seeing teams release undrafted rookies and other players signed after the season. The Rams still appear to have inflated numbers at receiver. Arizona and San Francisco are each carrying 15 defensive backs, nearly one above the league average (14.2). Arizona has six tight ends (league average 4.9).

The chart shows current roster numbers, counting unsigned draft choices. Note that some numbers vary by defensive scheme. A 3-4 team will carry more linebackers than a 4-3 team, for example. Something to keep in mind as the 49ers and Cardinals commit to the 3-4.
