Recommended reading: Ben Houser's piece on Larry Fitzgerald, with specific attention paid to the receiver's vision. Fitzgerald's grandfather, Dr. Robert Johnson, is an optometrist.

Houser: Johnson, an optometrist practicing in Chicago, taught Fitzgerald from the age of 8 to strengthen his vision. Johnson taught him to cover one of his eyes with one hand and catch a tennis ball with the other. Johnson also used multiple technical vision tests and exercises to refine Fitzgerald's visual skills and to focus and enhance his peripheral vision.

The story also included Fitzgerald's record-setting stats from the playoffs last season: 30 receptions for 546 yards and seven touchdowns. Only seven current NFC West receivers caught more passes during the entire 2008 regular season: T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Anquan Boldin, Isaac Bruce, Donnie Avery, Steve Breaston, Brandon Jones and Jerheme Urban.

Fitzgerald's playoff production matched Deion Branch's regular-season production for receptions while exceeding it for yardage and touchdowns. Branch played in eight regular-season games. Fitzgerald played in four playoff games, counting the Super Bowl.
