Alex Smith fuels Crabtree perceptions
By Mike Sando
Quarterback Alex Smith thinks receiver Michael Crabtree should be attending the San Francisco 49ers' player-organized workouts.
Smith made that clear Wednesday.
Why hasn't Crabtree attended so far?
"Great question," Smith said, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. "Asking the wrong guy."
Smith said he had spoken to Crabtree. The fact that the usually polite Smith would put public pressure on Crabtree in this manner strengthens perceptions that the two players haven't been on the same page.
Those perceptions could be overblown, but they do exist, particularly in light of comments Crabtree made about Smith last season.
Crabtree, asked about Mike Johnson's debut as offensive coordinator, answered this way: "Mike Johnson did his thing. He did what he was supposed to do. He got everybody the ball. Only thing is, Mike Johnson can't throw the ball. He can just call plays."
